Destination St. John’s (DSJ) is a private non-profit corporation operating under the direction of a Board of Directors on behalf of its partners. It is a finely tuned sales and marketing organization, selling tourism partners’ products, services and experiences to the world. On their behalf, we are seeking a Director of Sales to take an integral role within the organization.

Reporting to the CEO, and leading the sales team, The Director of Sales will develop, execute and monitor the annual sales plan and budget, covering all sectors including Meetings, Conventions and Incentive Travel, Leisure Travel (Group Tour and Consumer) and Event Tourism. Selling to national and international markets, s/he will oversee and deliver all aspects of the business development process including: trade shows, sales missions, familiarization (FAM) tours, bid preparation, sales follow-up, special client promotions, conferences and sponsorships and national sales partnerships. S/he will bring to the role an obvious strength for coaching, mentoring and recognition of the valued contributions this high-performance team delivers. The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all sales and marketing activities are optimized and aligned toward common goals and deliver key reports and analysis on sales and member activity.

This role requires a background of success in a sales and marketing role within the tourism industry, with approximately eight to ten years experience. Your excellent sales and leadership skills will likely be demonstrated through extensive knowledge of group sales - national convention market, event tourism, and group tour; expertise in the consumer market and the hotel industry; and solid understanding of all aspects of the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate has an infectious passion for this industry coupled with a proven ability in the areas of formulating and executing a sales strategy. Highly organized and a strong project manager, s/he will have the unique ability to convey a message that resonates with audiences in person and through social media platforms. This role requires significant travel throughout Canada.
